The BC Refugee Hub will be hosting a webinar to support organizations working with refugee claimants. This webinar will review the refugee claim process, including the steps claimants must take, documentation required, and multilingual resources available for all refugee claimants to access.

• Tips for supporting refugee claimants with navigating the specific complexities of the claim process.
• Introduction to the My Refugee Claim resources and their relevance for service providers supporting refugee claimants.

Speaker: Sophia Underhill – Refugee Protection Lead, Kinbrace Community Society

Sophia works at Kinbrace Community Society as the Refugee Protection Lead, where her role entails increasing access to justice for refugee claimants and coordinating the organization’s Ready Tour program and public legal education resources. Before joining Kinbrace, Sophia lived in London, England, where she worked with individuals affected by the immigration detention and criminal justice systems, and with unaccompanied minors arriving in the UK. Sophia has experience working with the UNHCR in India and overseeing community-based research in the refugee settlement sector. She also acts as a Designated Representative for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) in her spare time. Sophia holds a BA in International Studies from Simon Fraser University (SFU), and an MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics (LSE).

The target audience for this webinar includes settlement workers and settlement organization staff, community support workers, library staff, educational institutions, government representatives, and all stakeholders working with and supporting refugee claimants.
