The following bulletin was shared by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on July 1o, 2025 via their newsletter.

RE: New Refugee Protection Identity Document (RPID) will be mailed to clients to replace RPIDs with missing features

As you may be aware, some key features were missing on Refugee Protection Identity Documents (RPIDs) issued between March 25, 2025 and April 15, 2025, as a result of system errors following the launch of the new RPID, which replaced the Refugee Protection Claimant Document (RPCD).

Nevertheless, these RPIDs have remained valid and claimants have been able to access services and benefits, including the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) and Medavie.

Beginning on July 23, 2025, claimants who have been issued one of these RPIDs will be mailed a replacement with all the key features and full 6-year validity. The old RPID with missing features will be cancelled shortly after new RPIDs are mailed. To protect their personal information and to help prevent identity theft, instructions included with their replacement RPID will ask claimants to shred or destroy their old RPID before throwing it out.

Claimants will need to use their new RPID in order to access services.

If you have any further questions, you can contact the Client Support Centre.

Thank you,

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
