The Douglas College Connections Newcomer Employment Program has  moved online and have a new class starting on June 15th. Since they have moved online, they are able to reach out to more newcomers in the Lower Mainland. They are using their college-approved Blackboard platform and language translation where needed.

Douglas College have supported more than 130 newcomers with barriers to employment by increasing their Essential Skills and Employability skills while learning about the Canadian workplace culture and etiquette.

Online Information Sessions Thursdays 10am – 11am: May 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18.

To reach more of your clients, the eligibility of the program has expanded:

Program ELIGIBILITY **UPDATED**

  • For ages 17+
  • LINC 4 (since moving online, we have increased language requirements)
  • Must have access to a Computer, WiFi and basic digital technology skills
  • Permanent Resident, Family Class or persons with refugee status in Canada
  • Unable to accept Canadian Citizens, temporary foreign workers, skilled immigrants, or refugee claimant who have not yet received a positive decision on their refugee status claim.

Online Class start date: June 15th – August 7th 2020
Online Job Search + Support: August 10th – September 2nd 2020

Location: Online – Blackboard platform
Time: Monday to Friday classes 1:00pm – 2:30pm + weekly group discussions and homework

(Lessons will be recorded for students to refer back to)

Clients will continue to complete the intake, baseline survey and assessment, which will have no influence on the results of the Randomized selection/Control trial. Both ‘program’ and the ‘control’ group could receive a $100 financial honorarium upon participation and the completion of both two and six month follow up surveys.
