Employment Support and Mentoring for Refugees and Refugee Claimants

A refugee’s difficult journey doesn’t end when landing in Canada, and with the many systemic barriers refugees face in a new country, their income security proves to be their greatest concern, especially since COVID-19. At this webinar, you’ll learn about Jumpstart Refugee Talent, a refugee led non-profit organization and the only national organization in Canada with a specific focus on the economic empowerment of newly resettled refugees in Canada, with offices in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. You will also hear from our panelists, a mentor, a mentee and a settlement serving agency representative on their experience with this program.

Why Employment Mentorship to Refugees?

85% of jobs are secured through connections” a LinkedIn study, and one of the studies that Jumpstart’s Welcome Talent Canada mentorship program is built upon. During this webinar we will discuss the challenges, barriers, gaps in services that refugees face, while learning about the experience of mentors and mentees to better understand employment mentoring best practices, specifically when it comes to serving refugees.

Webinar Learning Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of why meaningful employment is crucial to refugees’ resettlement journey after displacement;
  • Converse with a diverse panel of professionals who have experienced Jumpstart’s services and programs in BC (Settlement representative, Welcome Talent Canada mentor and mentee, Jumpstart staff);
  • Expand knowledge about the tools and resources available by Jumpstart to support the meaningful employment of refugees in your networks.
  • Discuss challenges, barriers and best practices of employment mentoring for refugees.
We will have plenty of time for a Q&A session with our speakers.
