Legal Aid BC is still here to help clients during COVID-19. Find up-to-date information about legal aid applications, legal information, and child protection, family advice, and criminal legal services on their COVID-19 legal help page.

Legal Aid BC services include legal aid applications, Parents Legal Centres, duty counsel, and community partners, can be reached by phone. The Family LawLINE (a free telephone advice service) is also available.

Legal aid applications

Contact your local legal aid location to apply. If there isn’t a location in your community, call the LABC Call Centre.

General legal aid information

Our community partners are located across the province and can help you get legal aid information.

Legal information services

Our legal information outreach workers provide information and referral services by phone and through the Family Law in BC website LiveHelp chat service.

Our Aboriginal community legal workers provide information and limited legal advice by phone.

Child protection services

If you have a child protection matter and there’s a Parents Legal Centre (PLC) in your community, call the office to receive help. PLC services are now available by phone only. For contact information and hours of service, please see the PLC page.

Family advice services

Duty counsel family advice services are now available by phone only. Lawyers won’t be available at courthouses or Justice Access Centres. For phone numbers and service hours, please see family duty counsel lawyers and family advice lawyers.

  • Aboriginal Legal Aid BC website: your questions about COVID-19 and the legal system answered
  • MyLawBC website: guided pathways to address separation and divorce, wills and personal planning, and foreclosure problems; an online negotiation tool to help separating couples make agreements; and free online mediation for preparing a parenting plan
