The BC SAFE HAVEN program, offered by Options Community Services, provides support for refugee claimants and vulnerable newcomers. This wrap-around service is designed to meet urgent needs while helping newcomers build stronger connections within their communities.
Key services include clinical counselling, housing support, and employment assistance. Participants can access job search strategies, customized employment counselling, and short-term pre-employment training, as well as attend job fairs and networking events.
For those navigating the refugee process, the program offers guidance on refugee claims, legal aid, and income assistance. Other services like conversation circles help improve English language skills, with classes available for beginner and intermediate learners.
Located in Surrey, the program provides support in a range of languages including English, Arabic, Farsi, Punjabi, Spanish, and more. Eligible clients can also benefit from child-minding services, bus tickets, and a computer lending library to help with virtual refugee hearings.
