On June 24, 2025, the BC Refugee Hub hosted a webinar to support organizations working with LGBTQIA+ newcomer refugee claimants.
Queer newcomers often face layered barriers in the refugee claim process—including discrimination, systemic gaps, and intersectional challenges related to race, gender identity, immigration status, and socio-economic background. This session offered frontline workers practical tools and strategies to provide safe, inclusive, and affirming support, along with information on available programs and services.
This webinar was designed for staff from organizations working with refugee claimants, including settlement workers, service providers, health sector professionals, and community partners, particularly those involved in the BC Safe Haven program.
Speakers shared insights on:
-
