PIRS – Refugee StrongStart Program

This program brings parents and children together and focuses on the following domains of developmental parenting:

  • Affection: warmth, physical closeness, and positive expressions toward the child;
  • Responsiveness: responding to a child’s cues, emotions, words, interests, and behaviours;
  • Encouragement: active support of exploration, effort, skills, initiative, curiosity, creativity, and play;
  • Teaching: shared conversation and play, cognitive stimulation, explanations, and questions.
