Starting October 17, 2022, groups of five and community sponsors in Canada can sponsor Afghan refugees without having to submit a refugee status determination (RSD) document from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) or a third state.
The waiver of this requirement will last until 3,000 Afghan refugees have been accepted into processing, or until October 17, 2023.
