Building Mental Health Capacity: Tools for Frontline Workers Supporting Refugee Claimants

We are pleased to launch the BC Refugee Hub Mental Health E-Learning Series, a four-part training program designed to build mental health capacity among frontline workers supporting refugee claimants across British Columbia.

Training Series Details:

  • Training content developed by Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
  • Self-paced e-learning modules hosted on the AMSSA Institute Thinkific platform
  • Live interactive workshops led by Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), to deepen learning, connect with peers, ask questions, and provide feedback to shape future training
  • Certificate of completion for each module

Each module is a stand-alone course. You are welcome to register for one, several, or all four, depending on your interest and availability. You can add more modules in the future as there will be reminders to register sent out for each module as they approach.

Module 1: Advanced Trauma-Informed Practice

  • E-Learning released August 2025
  • Follow-Up Live Session: September 22, 2025 (Save the Date)
  • Learn how to recognize and respond to complex trauma in client interactions. Gain practical tools for applying trauma-informed care in day-to-day work, tailored for non-clinicians

Module 2: Boundary Setting within Ethnocultural Communities

  • E-Learning released October 2025
  • Follow-Up Live Session: November 25, 2025 (Save the Date)
  • Explore how to set compassionate boundaries, navigate dual relationships, and manage role confusion, especially when working within your own community.

Module 3: Creating Safer Spaces and Responding to Disclosures

  • E-Learning released December 2025
  • Follow-Up Live Session: January 27, 2026 (Save the Date)
  • Understand how to create psychologically safe environments, respond to trauma disclosures with empathy, and follow best practices for confidentiality and referrals.

Module 4: De-escalation: Conflict and Emotional Regulation

  • E-Learning released February 2026
  • Follow-Up Live Session: March 12, 2026 (Save the Date)
  • Build confidence in managing emotionally charged situations and preventing escalation through communication tools, emotional regulation techniques, and preventative strategies.

Once you are registered, you will receive the E-Learning module link by email when it is released, along with a calendar invite for the corresponding Live session.
